Lisa Silveri is no stranger to 澳门六合图库, or to the Department of Regional Schools and Instructional Programs. She began her administrative career as the agency’s Program Coordinator for the Massapequa School District’s Twilight Alternative High School. Now, she has returned to 澳门六合图库 full time and is bringing her unique set of skills and fundamental knowledge as Assistant Principal for Specialized Schools.
Ms. Silveri comes to us from the Massapequa School District where she served for over 15 years as a successful and innovative teacher before becoming a key member of the Massapequa Central Administrative staff.
Ms. Silveri’s instructional approach and educational methods proved successful in consistently meeting the academic, intellectual and social needs of her students, making her a natural choice for a leadership role. In 2018, she was named Massapequa School District Central Office’s Administrative Associate, in which capacity she supervised the district’s day-to-day operations, including management systems and workflow processes and procedures. In addition, she contributed to developing changes and improvements, and devising effective policies for district administration.
When the COVID pandemic hit, forcing a lockdown, Ms. Silveri earned the position as Principal and Program Supervisor for Massapequa’s newly formed Elementary Distance Learning Center. Thanks largely to her dedicated efforts, students continued their studies on remote learning platforms like PowerSchool Learning and through the creation of digital classroom spaces using Google Meet.
With her proven record of educational leadership, Ms. Silveri was promoted to the position of Executive Director for Business and Operations for Massapequa schools. In this role, she served as a member of the superintendent’s cabinet and managed the district’s comprehensive annual budget. As the leading business official, Ms. Silveri oversaw the district’s operating budget, fiscal planning, grant funding and capital projects.
Ms. Silveri has been asked to share her formidable expertise at several educational conferences. She offered her powerful presentation on multilingual education, “You Had Me at Hola,” at the New York State Association of Foreign Language Teachers (NYSAFLT) conference, as well as the Long Island Language Teachers conference. She also presented at the Foreign Languages Across the Curriculum conference at Hofstra University, and multiple conferences for the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese. Her article, “Use All Your Creative Tools for an Effective Learning Environment,” was published in the NYSAFLT Journal.
“Every child deserves an opportunity to learn,” Ms. Silveri said. “We are giving that opportunity to students who may not be able to find it elsewhere. It is our job to provide these students with the skills they truly need moving forward, whether into the workforce or on to higher education, and our team is up to the challenge. This is a great group of people who really want our students to succeed, and I am honored to be working with them.”
Ms. Silveri holds a master’s degree in educational leadership from Stony Brook University, a master’s in early childhood education from Hofstra University, and a bachelor's degree in business administration from Loyola College in Maryland. She attended the RULER Program at Yale University’s Center for Emotional Intelligence, as well as Harvard University’s Project Zero. She is certified by New York State as a school district and school building leader, in early childhood education, and to teach foreign languages at both the elementary and secondary level. Ms. Silveri is currently pursuing a doctorate in educational policy and leadership at Hofstra.
