GC Tech career and technical education high school has opened a new path to career-minded students. The recently developed esthetics program was launched this fall in response to a mounting local demand for estheticians, as well as an increased enrollment in cosmetology courses. Licensed esthetician Veronica Korologos will be teaching the inaugural course, bringing nearly 20 years of professional experience and a formidable set of skills to share with her students.
“I always tell my students, you don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great,” said Ms. Korologos.
In 2016, Ms. Korologos moved her career to the next level by launching her own business, Essential Skin Care and Acne Treatment. As owner/operator and lead esthetician, she provides direct patient care, treatment planning and product education to her clients. She also creates and implements educational training sessions and workshops for clients, fellow estheticians and other local businesses, including spas.
Ms. Korologos was selected to spearhead the new course due to her considerable expertise in a variety of disciplines within the field. She began her professional career as territory assistant manager for the Henry Schein Dental Sales Company, where she served as an integral member of the sales team, developing and implementing client training workshops.
From there, Ms. Korologos moved on to XO8 Cosmeceuticals, where her role as educator and trainer brought out the natural-born teacher in her. She conducted educational seminars for local esthetician schools, training students and school employees on product specifications and usage.
“Veronica Korologos is an experienced and motivated professional, as well as an exceptional educator,” said GC Tech Principal Madelaine Hackett. “We believe that she will play a vital role in fostering confident, passionate and well-prepared student estheticians. Ms. Korologos comes highly recommended by The Long Island Nail and Skin Care Institute, our anticipated post-secondary partner for this program.”
Ms. Korologos is a graduate of the Forsyth School for Dental Hygienists, holds an associate degree in health sciences from Northeastern University, and is certified in esthetics by the Long Island Nail and Skin Care Institute.
Our culture has seen a growing need for professional estheticians, who perform facials, apply makeup (including eyelash extensions and tinting), provide facial hair removal services, and offer consultations for effective skincare regimens. The field anticipates a 73 percent growth rate in New York State within the next decade, with the US Department of Labor projecting an increased need of nearly 17 percent for estheticians and skincare specialists nationwide.
